New chancellor for UWC

The University of the Western Cape will inaugurate new chancellor Thabo Makgoba on Tuesday evening.

“Makgoba was appointed on 24 November last year, but due to the time of his appointment the inauguration will only take place tonight,” UWC Chair of Council Brian Williams said in a statement.

In 2007, 47-year-old Makgoba became the youngest Archbishop of Cape Town.

He succeeds Archbishop Desmond Tutu as UWC chancellor.

Vice-chancellor Brian O'Connell said the university was looking forward to having Makgoba as chancellor.
