University lauds new UWC chancellor

ANGLICAN Archbishop Thabo Makgoba says SA should not be afraid of excellence and must reject mediocrity and inadequacy seen in the 30 to 40 percent required to pass matric.

Makgoba gave his inaugural speech after being officially appointed the fourth chancellor of UWC last night.

Makgoba was lauded by the university’s council chairman, Brian Williams.

He said Makgoba had been chosen by the university council for his humility, ethical leadership and dignity. “He is a remarkable person… who refused to be trapped by our history… with the courage to hold government accountable… who is consciously low-key in his community work.
