"Lent is a time of repentance and fasting, of turning away from all that is counter to God’s will and purposes for his world and all who live in it", he said. "This year, I invite Anglicans to focus their Lenten ‘acts of love and
sacrifice’ on our contribution to climate change, and on those most impacted by it."

New Bishop of False Bay Margaret Vertue.

The Anglican Church of Southern Africa has consecrated its first female bishop in South Africa, Margaret Vertue, the new head of the diocese of False Bay.

Well, 2012 is almost over, and to nobody’s great surprise, was not the year in which the world ended. The general response to this non-event was just to carry on, business as usual.

The Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, the Most Revd Dr Thabo Makgoba, has issued the following call for prayers for Nelson Mandela (known in South Africa by his ‘clan name’ of Madiba), his wife Graça Machel, and
family.

IT HAS been prominently reported in the media that a group of senior religious leaders have warned President Jacob Zuma in no uncertain terms that if political leaders did not stop the moral decay in South Africa, the church would mobilise civil society “to bring about a more healthy democracy” (“Clerics get tough with Zuma”, Pretoria News, December 11).
